Allergies

Isaac has just come out of an episode of severe allergy problems which started on Easter.  His eyes were swelling nearly completely shut.
Sometimes one eye would be completey shut.  The next day the opposite one would be swollen shut.  The next day they would be both swollen almost shut, and then it would go away and start over again.  I would literally get in the car to take him to therapy, and look back at him in my rearview mirror to see his eyes swelling shut, and have to stop the car and give him benedryl.  It was just so freaky.  He looked like a monster!

We took him to Convenient Care where the idiot doctors put him on antibiotics and gave him antibiotic eye drops (I didn't know the drop was an antiobiotic).  We went to the allergy doctor who told us that none of this would do any good.  He proceeded to do some very painful skin prick tests on Isaac's back.  It was a nightmare to hold him down, and he was terrified.  Unusually, he didn't react to any of the skin pricks.  Come to find out, he was NOT suppose to have had any medicine before we came, and we had given him Benedryl because his eyes were swollen almost completely shut (no joke).  But, they didn't tell me, and I guess it doesn't take a rocket scientist to think that one through.  But, I was more worried about juggling getting babysitting for Josiah, packing everything we needed, changing a poopy diaper when we got into the office, and trying to keep Isaac from freaking out.  I was pretty ticked that they did the tests for no reason.  I've decided that I'm not taking my kids to the doctors in Jackson anymore. We will wait until we get moved.

Thankfully, they prescribed a new eyedrop that works excellent for him, and Claratin seems to help a little.  We can't give him Zertec (which was recommended, but David and I both know it makes him EXTREMELY moody).  I also did not give him the recommended prednisone that the doc prescribed.  I wanted to try the drops and a change in over the counter meds first.  And, they worked.  So, I didn't give it.  I've been told my another doctor that giving children prednisone is a bad idea unless it is absolutely necessary.  And, we know from Isaac's episode of croup at Christmas that prednisone makes him act crazy. The last time we gave it to him, he stared at the ceiling while walking in circles and clapping his hands.  It was really strange.
